The Russia-Ukraine war has no doubt left millions of Ukrainians writhing under the pain of a devastating war. Precious lives have been lost and properties worth billions of dollars have been destroyed in its wake.

Living through the war’s 8th month has been tough for the average Ukrainian citizen and family who are likely to face a shortage of food two times faster than a spent bullet. The consequences of surviving the onslaught are dire: they range from waking up to the sound of bomb explosions to staying indoor from sunup to sundown and to mourning their loved ones.

Aiding struggling Ukrainian individuals and families is crucial to ensuring the protection of lives and livelihoods. Since the outbreak of the conflict several aid organisations have flocked to the Ukrainian cause by raising funds to support and provide for its citizens.

HOW DIRECT AID UKRAINE IS PROVIDING HUMANITARIAN AID IN UKRAINE

To cushion the effect of the conflict , Direct Aid Ukraine, a small group of volunteers registered as an NGO in Germany, is providing humanitarian support to suffering Ukrainians. Thanks to the generous donations it received from 231 people, it has so far delivered cash support and food packages to the vulnerable.

Direct cash donations worth 38.8 EURO helped to provide 918 food packages delivered to individuals and families who have become refugees in their own country. Although Direct Aid Ukraine is a project aimed at raising funds for Ukrainians, it is disposed to support the neediest of them all owing to the small size of its treasury.

“While the interest in the war in Ukraine seems to be fading, the suffering of the people is arguably becoming worse. Most refugees from embattled or occupied areas are now seeking shelter within Ukraine, while there are less and less means to support them,”a DAU member was recently quoted as saying.

“Many of them even consider returning to their homes in the warzone, as the conditions they are met with in less affected areas of Ukraine are not up to standards”.

WHAT THE BENEFICIARIES ARE SAYING

“The money sent to me came just in time for us to pay the rent and pay for medication and food. Without it we would have been in great trouble” — Raisa Vladimerovna

Raisa is a diabetic patient who has been living with her son since she lost her home. She needed money for food, rent and medication but the war stopped his son from working to fend for himself and his mother.

Luckily, the timely cash donation she received from Direct Aid Ukraine has helped to relieve them from the burden of a costly rent and has provided her with food and medication.

“Hello, my name is Julja and I have been volunteering at the Charitable Organisation “Sa Odessu” for 5 years. Before the war, I was responsible for welcoming people and taking calls from people who need help. I managed the project “Congratulations” in which we congratulated the citizens of Odessa on anniversaries and important holidays. Today I take care of purchases, phone calls, route descriptions and the delivery of aid to people”.

Julja is a member of Sa Odessu(For Odessa) a popular Ukrainian NGO that has benefited from Direct Aid Ukraine’s financial support. She is one of the dedicated volunteers who see to the distribution of food packages in areas where they are most needed and to people who need them the most.
